Instilling Faith & Principles in an Industry Few Trust

The Christian Brother Automotive franchise opportunity is an investment that aligns well with the values held by potential franchise owners. As the 2022 Franchise Business Review survey shows, many of our existing shop owners found our automotive franchise enticing because it allows them to not only develop their business ownership goals, but also engage in community giveback initiatives and value-driven work through our people-first approach to automotive care. Our commitment to a culture of excellence can be seen in our Home Office and every one of our 257 shops across the country. Here's how we embody our core values of neighborly, joy, excellence, and transparency – all while helping others:

National Day of Service

In 2005, we hosted our very first National Service Day to spread goodwill in the communities we serve. While this allocated day of service started as a franchisee-led initiative, it has since grown into a cornerstone of our brand. Every second Saturday of October, each member of the Christian Brothers Automotive family comes together to give back to single moms and other individuals who may need a helping hand. Our shops partner with local churches and other non-profit organizations to identify the needs in each community. Then, on National Service Day, our teams donate their time and the cost of parts to provide participants free oil changes and other safety repairs. Our commitment to neighborliness and compassion are vital to the continued culture we wish to cultivate at Christian Brothers Automotive, and our franchisees exemplify those characteristics magnificently. We recently celebrated our 12th annual National Service Day on October 15th, click here to learn more.

Our Compassion Driven Franchise System

To further encourage our franchise family to pursue a path of giving, we instill in our automotive franchise system many ways to pay it forward. From our welcoming waiting rooms in each shop to our complimentary shuttle service, our auto service franchise model puts people first and treats each guest with the utmost care and respect. After celebrating 40 years of business, we wanted to show both our franchise owners and guests how much their continued support means to the Christian Brothers Automotive brand. Throughout September, our Home Office team sent each owner a gift box containing items representing our core values: Excellence, Transparency, Joy and Neighborly. To keep kindness contagious, shop owners then surprised one of their loyal guests with a gift box of their own, as a token of thanks and appreciation. In addition, some of the guest gift boxes contained randomly placed golden tickets, which awarded 40 lucky guests with a year of free oil changes. When our brand exemplifies our culture commitments at a corporate level, our franchisees feel encouraged to continue their commitment to bettering the lives of others in their own communities.

Owners Impacting their Communities

From franchise owners to shop managers, our franchise system consistently looks for the best ways to engage with the community and help those in need. We are honored to have many incredibly kindhearted individuals on our team who volunteer their time to help others. For example, manager of the Christian Brothers Automotive shops in Bryan and College Station, Texas, Jeremy Smith, was named the 2022 Lighthouse Award recipient for his volunteer work with OnRamp. Jeremey donated countless hours of his spare time to build and oversee the organization's vehicle team, repair clients' cars and build an incredible vehicle tracking database.

Jerry Wilson is another franchisee whose selfless acts have not gone unnoticed. As owner of the Lake Jackson, Texas shop, Jerry and his team recently donated a repaired vehicle to Lettie Wilson. Lettie, a single mother with two daughters, had just been involved in an accident that left her without transportation. By partnering with a local nonprofit, Jerry and his shop team were able to step up and help someone truly in need. Jerry and Jeremy are just two examples of the countless team members at Christian Brothers Automotive that put our values into action. Their generosity and servant leadership play a large role in allowing us to stay on top of a competitive industry.

The positive culture of a company can improve overall franchisee and guest satisfaction. We value the input of our current franchise owners and are proud to have been recognized by the Franchise Business Review survey in several categories for 2022. This year, Christian Brothers Automotive received the following distinctions:

Business ownership is the ultimate goal for individuals with an entrepreneurial mindset, but starting a business by yourself can be intimidating. Franchising offers a unique prospect for entrepreneurs because it provides many first-time owners with the necessary tools to start, operate and scale their business. The first step entrepreneurs can take when starting a business is choosing an industry that is right for them with promising market growth ahead.

Here are three reasons why franchising in the automotive market may be the right investment for budding entrepreneurs:

Proven Systems, Notable Achievements and Decades of Experience

Christian Brothers Automotive has more than four decades of industry knowledge with refined systems and processes under our belt. We guide franchise owners on how to use our proven systems to make the start-up process and ongoing operations simple, maintainable and successful. One particular process that especially appeals to new franchisees is site selection support. We realize that not all franchise owners carry the real estate experience needed to select an optimal site, which is why our in-house real estate team leads the site selection, acquisition, development, and construction of their business. Through data collection and extensive market research, we identify areas that meet our customer demographics, while also taking into account experiential feedback from existing franchisees to ensure the selected sites check every box for a thriving business.

Because of our decades of experience in the automotive field, and the accolades we’ve received along the way, Christian Brothers Automotive franchisees can feel confident in running their business from day one with national brand awareness and a strong reputation behind them. To further prove our best-in-class standing in the industry, Christian Brothers received the 2021 ACE Award and notable rankings on Entrepreneur Magazine’s Franchise 500 list, Franchise Business Review’s Top Franchises list and J.D. Power in 2022.

The Automotive Industry’s Unwavering Strength

The automotive repair industry has continued to thrive throughout times of both prosperity and recession. Americans rely heavily on their cars, and those cars will always require maintenance and repair, which means brands like Christian Brothers Automotive will continue to play an integral role in helping guests get back on the road. On average, Americans spend more than $500 a year on car maintenance/repair and recently the average age of cars on the road rose to 12.2 years old with a typical mileage of 200,000. With these factors as indicators, it’s clear to experts that the auto repair industry’s market size is showing steady growth, demonstrating that our franchise owners can invest in a promising business opportunity. Our brand’s unwavering resilience is further evident in our ranking as a Top Recession-Proof Franchise for 2022.

Untapped Growth Potential

Scalability is just one indicator of brand success, and, in the 40 years since Christian Brothers Automotive’s inception, we’ve grown significantly without ever closing a location. Our most recent growth puts our automotive franchise at a footprint of more than 250 shops across the United States. Plus, we are grateful that we were ranked number one by J.D. Power for the third year in a row and scored the highest in Customer satisfaction for Aftermarket full-service maintenance and repair with a score of 825* in addition to our #2 ranking on the list of America’s best franchises to buy. These accolades put Christian Brothers Automotive in a prime position to continue raising the standard for quality service within the automotive industry.

This month, Christian Brothers Automotive turns 40. The achievements we’ve been able to accomplish along this journey would not be possible without the extraordinary loyalty of our franchisees, shop team members, Home Office, guests, and, of course, the communities in which we serve.

As we reflect on the past 40 years of our brand’s history, we would be remiss if we didn’t celebrate the 26 years in which we’ve been a successful franchise system. The legacy we’ve established and continue to build is one of compassion, respect, transparency, and integrity. These are the pillars of the Christian Brothers Automotive franchise, and through our people-first approach to car care, we strive to be a light in the automotive industry. Our values and actions not only help others, but assist us in attaining our franchise goals in the coming years.

Auto Repair Franchise Legacy Grounded in Community Giveback

A key component of our auto franchise model and who we are as a brand is giving back to the communities we serve.  When we began franchising in 1996, we made a promise to give on a local, national and international level. Through food and blood drives, car and free oil donations, National Service Day and more, our organization truly puts the Nice Difference® into practice.

Our franchise owners truly exemplify what it means to create heartwarming moments for others through car repair, and they allow us to continue constructing a legacy grounded in community involvement. Tony Craft, franchise owner of the Christian Brothers Automotive Cherokee location in the Atlanta area, recently announced his shop’s partnership with the Cherokee County Homeless Veterans Program, American Legion 45 and Patriot Towing, which will provide free services and repairs to veterans in need. Another instance of hope and kindness was exemplified by Christian Brothers Automotive franchise owner Rick Martinez of the Treasure Valley, Idaho location. Martinez surprised a family fleeing from Ukraine by donating a repaired car, in the hopes of making their journey as refugees in America a bit less stressful. On several occasions every year, franchise locations can choose to make a positive difference by taking the steps necessary to change a guests’ life for the better like Craft and Martinez.

Automotive Franchise Growth Goals

With 26 years in the car service franchise rearview mirror, we’re looking ahead to the next 40 and beyond for our system and brand. In line with our giveback efforts, our overarching philanthropic goal is to give $25 million in donations by the end of 2025, and our brand is well on our way to meeting that milestone. We’re also diligently working toward our goal of increasing Christian Brother’s franchise footprint to 340 locations by the end of 2025, bringing the Nice Difference® and our best-in-class automotive franchise opportunity to new communities across the country.

This year, we surpassed 250 locations, opening 6 new locations during the first half of this year, putting us on track to close out the year with 270 open locations, with 60 additional sites in the development process.

Industry trends indicate that an increased number of drivers are holding on to their cars longer, raising the demand for automotive repairs and replacement parts. This puts repair shops like ours at an advantage within the market, driving profit for our franchise owners. Last year we saw our average unit volume grow 27.5%* from $1.6 million to $2.1 million! The technological prowess and expertise we provide, paired with our neighborly attitude, allows our shops to provide an unmatched guest experience.

In the video below, Donnie Carr, our President and CEO, reflects on the history of our brand and conceptualizes the promising future of our franchise system by further articulating these goals. We are fortunate enough to make a difference in numerous neighborhoods across the country through compassionate car care, and we hope that our next 26 years in franchising will continue to positively impact our franchise family and all Christian Brothers Automotive guests.

Owning a business is a dream for many entrepreneurial-minded individuals, but some are hesitant to take the leap into business ownership. With a franchise concept like ours, we take the guess work out of starting a business and provide our franchisees with a straightforward and supportive model that steers them toward growth and profitability. Below are a few reasons why the Christian Brothers Automotive franchise opportunity may be the best investment option for you:

No Automotive Experience Required

Many of our existing franchise owners started out with no prior experience in the automotive industry. Because of our thorough and comprehensive onboarding process that guides franchisees and their team members, our owners are thriving and adding additional shops to their existing portfolios. CBA Owner Aaron Tharp has been with our brand since 2004 when we only had 24 stores. Now, Tharp is a four-shop franchisee, and our growing concept recently surpassed 250 shops nationwide.

We’ve been able to reach such promising achievements because of the reliable and integrated systems and processes within our franchise model. We set our franchisees up for success upon their arrival; continuing to encourage their growth with our guidance on leadership and business management, operations and workflow, guest satisfaction and service, marketing and recruiting, automotive systems and computer software, as well as benefits administration and Human Resources.

The Automotive Technology Department at the Christian Brothers Automotive Home Office is another avenue that works to ensure our franchise owners have all the tools they need to succeed without any prior experience in the aftermarket automotive industry. Our AutoTech team assists franchisees and their technicians in finding solutions to any questions or problems they have with the repairs. From our Houston office, we work with shop technicians to remotely program systems, assist with emergent safety repairs, provide help with foreign repairs and so much more. This team also hosts regional and national training programs on the latest in technology and diagnostics in the automotive industry. With the help of our AutoTech team, our franchise owners are able to tackle any repair and maintenance task without needing to become experts on the subject themselves.

A Compassionate and Values-Driven Franchise

We understand and appreciate a deep sense of purpose when it comes to our work at Christian Brothers Automotive. We engage with the communities we serve and strive to bring a principled and empathetic approach to the automotive repair industry. Treasure Valley, Idaho franchise owner Rich Martinez is just one example of the many owners in our system who put their care into action. When a local couple left a vehicle at Martinez’s shop and asked him to donate it, Martinez knew he wanted to find the right opportunity to change someone’s life for the better. Along came the Prudnikov family, refugees from Ukraine who were given the vehicle to make their new life in America a bit easier. We put people first at CBA and welcome prospective franchisees who share this community-motivated mindset.

Customer and Franchisee Satisfaction

Our automotive franchise concept is backed by customer and franchisee satisfaction results, making it additionally attractive to business investors. We’re proud to share that we were ranked number one by J.D. Power for the third year in a row and scored the highest in Customer satisfaction for Aftermarket full-service maintenance and repair with a score of 825*. We were also named a Top Recession-Proof Franchise for 2022 by Franchise Business Review. Along with this attainment, we’ve ranked among the top 50 franchises for franchisee satisfaction 10 years in a row, further showcasing the quality care we provide our franchise owners. Christian Brothers Automotive franchisees appreciate our key model characteristics like our CBA Royalty (which outlines that corporate doesn’t get paid until franchise owners do), an annual salary and an industry-leading warranty.

A Proven Winning Formula

Overall, our proven franchise formula is what truly sets our concept apart from others and the results speak for themselves. Based on our 2022 Franchise Disclosure Document, our Average Unit Volume increased 27.5% from 2020 to 2021, going from $1.6 to $2.1 million. Furthermore, our shops continue to be a staple of the communities they operate in, each serving more than 4,000 guests each year on average. With zero location closures and one of the best reputations in the automotive repair industry, the Christian Brothers Automotive franchise continues to reach new milestones.

With top rankings and a proven model, joining our high performing car care franchise is attainable for qualified candidates. As we continue to develop in markets nationwide, we’re looking for value-driven franchise investors to join us.
