FAITH-BASED AUTO REPAIR FRANCHISE LANDS ON PRESTIGIOUS LIST FOR 6TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR
Christian Brothers Automotive, an auto repair franchise with a unique financial model for franchisees, has once again earned a spot on Entrepreneur magazine’s list of top franchise opportunities. In its 37thyear, the Entrepreneur list serves as a clearinghouse of franchise opportunities, with the magazine highlighting businesses that it considers among the best in the industry based on their overall size, growth, and financial performance. Ranked at 266 overall this year, Christian Brothers has appeared on the list for six consecutive years.
We have more than 150 locations nationwide, and added 19 in 2015 alone. CEO and Founder Mark Carr opened the first Christian Brothers Automotive in 1982 and began franchising in 1996. Over the course of three decades of operation, we have never closed a location.
“Christian Brothers Automotive has flourished by focusing on all of the things people don’t like about the auto repair business, and then working to make those things better,” Carr says. “Nobody wants to walk into a dirty auto shop, so we make sure our facilities are spotless. They want to spend their weekends with family and friends not waiting for their car to be repaired, so we make it easy for customers to bring their cars in during the week, and provide courtesy shuttles to get them where they need to go.”
“Nobody wants to go to a place where the service is a mystery, and service and repairs aren’t explained,” he says. “Christian Brothers is different because we treat everyone like we want to be treated — with respect, integrity, and a commitment not only to thoroughly explaining their vehicles repairs but to making their lives better however we can. For people who are having car problems, that commitment makes a big difference and takes away a lot of stress.”
WHY FRANCHISEES CHOOSE CHRISTIAN BROTHERS
Franchisees join Christian Brothers because they want to be part of an organization that is well-run, and that allows them to live their faith in their businesses. Franchisees also benefit from the Christian Brothers customer service model, which makes it easy for customers to come in Monday-Friday. After about six months in business, Christian Brothers are closed on weekends. That’s a deeply counter-intuitive move in the auto industry, since most companies leave customers little choice except to use weekends for auto repair. Since Christian Brothers customers can come in Monday-Friday, franchisees are able to give employees the weekend off, and franchisees are able to spend their weekends enjoying family, friends, church and community — all while generating average annual revenue of more than $1.2 million a year.
Christian Brothers’ financial model is unique, too. Christian Brothers assumes a majority of the risk in starting a franchise location by purchasing and constructing “built-to-suit” buildings, which the franchisee then manages. Christian Brothers does not charge a franchisee based on top-line revenues like virtually every other franchisor, but instead on a share of the profits, which is calculated after expenses. Franchisees also pay themselves a salary before they pay the franchisor a nickel.
Christian Brothers Automotive offers a convenient courtesy shuttle to and from work Monday through Friday.
